Mini-Review + Giveaway: Scorch by Gina Damico

Recently, I read and enjoyed SCORCH by Gina Damico.  This series is so delightfully quirky and eccentric, and in some ways, the second book was even better than the first, because it built on the world Damico developed in CROAK.  I liked SCORCH so much that I wanted to share my ARC with one lucky winner.  Please check out the mini-review below - with my full review coming soon! - and then enter to win your own copy of SCORCH!

Sixteen-year-old Lex Bartleby is a teenage grim reaper with the bizarre ability to damn souls. That makes her pretty scary, even to fellow Grims. But after inadvertently transferring her ability to Zara, a murderous outlaw, Lex is a pariah in Croak, the little town she calls home.

To escape the townspeople’s wrath, she and her friends embark on a wild road trip to DeMyse. Though this sparkling desert oasis is full of luxuries and amusements, it feels like a prison to Lex. Her best chance at escape would be to stop Zara once and for all—but how can she do that from DeMyse, where the Grims seem mysteriously oblivious to Zara’s killing spree?

I dove into the odd world of Croak again as I feverishly turned the pages of Scorch by Gina Damico; this author has created a world for all the misfits to unite, from Lex to Uncle Mort, Ayjay, Kloo, and Driggs.  The characters we love are back and are still utterly likable and delightfully eccentric.  This time though, the stakes are higher, as Damico  shows us that no one is safe - not with the murderous Zara on the loose.

With plenty of action and mystery, Scorch is a definite thrill-ride.  There are enough twists and turns to satisfy readers, but also a few romantic moments that made me grin.
